My County Sutherland Ramblings

Hi and welcome to my ramblings! What am I going to ramble about? My own ancestors! For many years I have been researching my own family tree in the County of Sutherland, Scottish Highlands. A beautiful place.

I was born in Edinburgh. My father, William Murray, was also born in the city. His father, William, was born in Sutherland. This is the family I have been researching for years.

I am going to share with you bits and bobs from the family tree plus some rambling on about how I came by the information. I hope not to bore you.

Being a Murray I shall begin with them but later hope to include my Mackays & Mackenzie families also.

One of the greatest joys of family history is the cousins you find that you did not know about! One night, a few years ago, I received an email from Pam Thomson in South Africa. She had put the word Rhemusaig into her internet browser and found me!! Wow. Pam and I share our 4 times, 3 times and 2 times Murray great grandparents. We have now become great friends.

Also wish to say huge thanks to Sheila Mackay, Edinburgh without whose help I would never have gathered so much information. Sheila and I met a few years back and are now also great friends.

To view the families start
HERE with my oldest known ancestors and then either follow the links from each page or use the menu on the side.

One of the main reasons for now putting my family history on line is the 'always hope' that even more cousins will find me. To contact me please click the link on the left to MAIN SITE and there are numerous contact links there. Will be delighted to hear from other descendants of these families or simply interested folks.

Thanks for being here.

Chris
